  the content of the program presented at the circuit assembly: safeguard your spirituality served as a re-affirmation that the wt/gb is loosing the grip of rank & file.

  they are becoming boulder and boulder in their blatant use of mind control techniques; in my opinion, their mind control techniques used to be more subtle.

  but the content of the program in this past assembly clearly reflected that they are acting out of frustration and desperation.

  Did the KM really say that Witnesses shouldn't do any research outside of WT publications? That would be surprising. What if a third-grader was doing a report on zebras or some other topic and he could only use WT resources? Talk about the least detailed report ever. I'm not criticizing your comment; I'm just wondering exactly what was stated in the article.

  Also, here's something I've been thinking about lately in relation to the WT and the Internet. I almost can't believe that they made a WT web-site. I mean, they were just opening themselves up to investigation with that one. If you Google "JWs" this site is one of the first, if not the first, that pops up. And the WT site is virtually useless. It's shocking that they bothered making it.

  I don't know. This program doesn't sound any different from all the other programs I've seen over the years. Follow the faithful and discreet slave? Pioneer? When have they not failed to repeat that stuff? The only thing that looks new is their emphasis on not getting married.

  They aren't any more aggressive in their mind control tactics than before. Unfortunately, they aren't any less aggressive either.

  this is not really a jw issue but rather a xian issue.. when i hear someone say that i feel a physical revulsion and aggravation similar to someone taking sandpaper directly to my spine.. as much as i know human nature...i am still really shocked anyone has the arrogance and stupidity to utter that sentiment.. i mean, ok, if you in your middle class/healthy/suffering-free life can conclude everything in your life happens for a reason, well i pity you...but doncha watch the news?.

  I also can't stand that phrase, but for a different reason. I hate it because it doesn't mean anything. It's on par with "it is what it is" for meaninglessness. When someone says that, I always want to say, "And what reason it that?"

  i really needed to find a place to write this as i don't believe i can talk with anyone else about my account, perhaps it is similar to a lot of yours.. last night for whatever reason i said i would go online and look up information on jws.

  i have been raised as a jw all my life and baptized the last few years.

  i looked at www.freeminds.org and www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com and couldn't believe how easily the whole of my lifes teachings were refuted.. i can't stop my brain from running, bs just in regards to theology alone (1914, paradise earth, celebrations etc.

  Hey gutted,

  I feel your pain; I'm in a very similar situation right now. You asked where you can go from here, and that's the tricky part that I haven't figured out yet. One question, though: is there anyone you can talk to about your "discoveries?" I've found a couple of people within the organization who share my views, and talking to these people can be a necessary release. What about your parents? Are they reasonable or fanatical witnesses? If they're reasonable, they're the first ones I would talk to. What about that friend you mentioned? Do you trust him or her enough to talk about this stuff?

  haha, someone actually sent me that too. With regards to whoever said that it's satire, I think that's partially true, but it isn't just satire. There's an element of seriousness to it. I think the attitude of the author is something like, "Hey guys, wouldn't it be funny if these kinds of things happened in paradise?" But the author isn't making fun of the concept of paradise.

  Do not circulate recordings or transcripts of talks at the meetings last night.

  ok i listening in for the meetings and will probably go to the special talk sunday, they are having it this week because of the special assembly day last weekend.. i am doing this for a very good reason but it is driving me crazy listening to this stuff.

  i need to vent of else i feel i will go crazy.

  it is so stupid.. ok so last night was the question box and it was about recording the public talks.

  I was there for that talk as well. The best comment I heard at my hall was from a sister who said, "We wouldn't want to record talks because the Watchtower is constantly changing. Things that were true in the past have changed." (This is actually a paraphrase, but really close to what she said).

  Imagine that. Things that were true before are no longer true. In the context of religion, that is an incredible comment to make and believe.

  I've asked myself many times how it is possible to believe things like this. I never really believed this stuff. As a born-in, I tried really hard to believe it, because it seemed like the safest avenue and the least path of resistance, and at times I came close to convincing myself, but never truly did. Doubts always lingered in the back of my mind. So I have a hard time understanding people who clearly buy this stuff all the way.

  So, what exactly are his religious views now? I haven't read all of his stuff. Most of COC, but not all.

  Also, has he said anything interesting to you about JWs that isn't in the book? Just curious.

  I've only met a current GB member before he joined. He seemed nice. I've watched three or four of them give talks at conventions. They were ok as speakers; nothing special. One of them had this really condescending tone during the whole talk, as if we were all a bunch of rule-breakers. I didn't exactly feel the love when he was on stage. Everyone was fawning over the talk, saying how he really told it like it is, but that's bunk. He was just calling a bunch of people he didn't know out on things that really aren't anyone's business.

  let me explain by what i am getting at without sounding like captain obvious!

  i am actually excited about this since i think this could help assist a ton of people out of this organization!!.

  i believe that the governing body is stepping up efforts to emphasize their unconditional rulership - every wt study article seems to make reference to their authority.

  I definitely see your point about worship. I don't know about other JWs, but speaking for myself, I fought a constant battle between worshiping God and worshiping the man-made rules. And if someone doesn't believe that JWs make you worship rules, just have them read that recent Bible study book: Remain in God's Love or whatever it's called. Or listen to a JW speak adamantly about how you must not celebrate Christmas because it's pagan, while acknowledging that the only reasons most people celebrate the holiday is to be with family. But rule-worship prevails over logic.

  One somewhat unrelated point that came to mind about being an "apostate." How can a person who has differing views from JWs ever discuss those views without being suspected of reading "apostate" literature or sites? It's a tough situation. Once a JW suspects you of reading "apostate" stuff, the conversation is basically over. As far as JWs are concerned, "apostate" stuff is plain evil and the person who has been reading it is deeply misled and troubled. You just can't get around it.

Nobody would've guessed that today's special talk was new; it could've been replaced by about fifty other talks without anyone catching on. Can you imagine being a writer faced with the challenge of making new 20-paragraph articles, all of which have already been written? How do they even do it without falling asleep?

  It's funny. A couple of years ago I got so excited when they unveiled the new "study edition" of the Watchtower. I thought that something new might be on the way. Little did I know that the only new feature would be scriptures in italics. The new articles are interchangeable with the old ones. And each meeting is interchangeable with the one that came before, unless someone breaks the mold and says something new. If it wasn't for the unique nature of each person alive, I suppose that the Watchtower would make people interchangeable too. But one size doesn't fit all, and that's where the Watchtower fails.

  It's sad because there are some very talented speakers in my hall. Imagine if they could speak as they want to speak!
